Hailee Steinfeld Shares A First Look At Her Bumblee Character

The Bumblebee spin-off movie is a thing that is happening and it's set to start filming any day now. Star Hailee Steinfeld took to social media to share a first look at her character, Charlie Watson.

There is a lot of visual shorthand here because people are predictable when it comes to characters. The tank, the ripped jeans, and the gender neutral name all indicate that she's going to be a badass, no nonsense tough girl. If that's the case then that's the case then that's a pretty boring character archetype to go with. Then again this is a Transformers movie.

We don't know much about this spin-off. Much like Rogue One this movie is going to have to justify any future spin-off movies. It also has to follow Transformers: The Last Knight which under performed at the box office and got critically decimated. That's a lot of pressure to put on a production but director Travis Knight has made some truly stunning films so maybe this is in good hands for once.

Bumblebee, directed by Travis Knight, stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos, and Gracie Dzienny. It will be released on December 21, 2018.
