James Franco Is Making A Documentary About Porn

I think that in order for him to a thorough exposé he should at some point take his clothes off…

Eh? What? Sorry, got distracted for a moment there. Yes, James Franco, who over the last decade has been a steadily rising star and most recently has made even the crustiest of film critics applaud begrudgingly with performances in 127 Hours and the Allen Ginsberg biopic Howl, is planning to make a documentary about the making of porno films. He said to Conan O'Brien on his talk show that the idea for this came from the fact that, in his younger days, he and a girlfriend made a sex tape and after watching it back were none too pleased with the results.

"[We] watched it back and said, 'Yeah, well, let's never watch that again.'

Those people in pornos, they are great performers; they're not just doing it, they're selling it to an audience. … They're performing so that an audience can get turned on by that kinda thing.

"My girlfriend and I didn't know that, so it was just kinda like weird movement. … It was really boring."

Right, right, boring … Say, James, do you still have that sex tape lying around somewhere, or…?

The film will apparently follow a major figure in the porn industry, and will be shot in San Francisco where the subject's production company is based. The actual company is as-yet unnamed, so does anyone want to make a guess based on the clues Franco gave?

"I actually am very interested in pornography… I watch it, who doesn't? I'm making a documentary on pornography. There's this amazing facility in San Francisco. … They do everything in house, they build their props in house. It's an incredible place."
