On the Babble-On podcast Josh Boone, the director of The Fault In Our Stars, told Kevin Smith that he was working on adapting Stephen King's 1168 page epic The Stand. Others have tried to boil the tale of good vs evil in a post-apocalyptic world into a single film, including Smith's friend Ben Affleck. But something funny happened when Boone turned in his three-hour long script attempt… the studio execs asked if he had thought about doing it as a multi-part film series.
The director says that Warner Brothers plans to adapt the novel into a four-part movie franchise. Boone has written the first installment based on his original script that he happily scrapped. Production of the first film should start in the spring.
