In Other Extremely Promising News: Justice League's Steppenwolf Never Met The Cast

Well, this should really make DC fans worried about Justice League feel a whole lot better — or not. There have been some odd choices when it comes to Justice League, and this is just another one. Yesterday we got a look at Steppenwolf in toy form, and he looks fine, we suppose. The toy isn't one of the high-quality ones, so it's hard to tell. However, while being interviewed on The Michael Ball Show actor Ciarán Hinds talked about his experience on set and how the costume never existed — because it was all motion capture:

"I'm sorry I'm not in costume. I didn't even have a costume when I was doing it. It's all done in motion capture. So… they stick a helmet on your head, they put two cameras around, and they capture all your expressions, facial expressions. So basically, they're going to concoct some kind of construction and they will use my facial expressions – eyes, mouth, voice – they'll turn into this murderous, avenging Steppenwolf from the planet Apokolips, apparently. Who's bent on Hell on Earth."

That isn't that surprising, but what is surprising was finding out that Hinds never interacted with any of the other members on set:

"No, I don't know whether they're all afraid to come and meet me– no, no they weren't, really. Because it's imaginary, you do it with green screen… That was another challenge, you could say, yeah. But it was quite fun. And they're very encouraging in what you do, suggesting 'Over here, look over there, imagine that, do this here, they're coming at you now.'"

In Other Extremely Promising News: Justice League's Steppenwolf Never Met The CastThis seems like such an odd creative choice. When you have a great actor like Hinds, you would think the filmmakers would be itching to have him interact with your cast. Now we're finding out that he hasn't even met anyone, which is worrisome.

Andy Serkis has shown that motion capture acting is acting, but him being there with other people is important. While Serkis' body might not be on screen the movements, the chemistry is all still there, because there are people talking to each other. The fact that Justice League decided to bypass all of that seems like a strange decision to make when you have a movie this big.

Summary: Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.

Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder, stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher. and Henry Cavill. It will be released on November 17th.
