No Street Fighter 5 Version Is Ever Coming To Xbox One
When Street Fighter V was first announced as a console exclusive for the PlayStation 4, it didn't take long for people to speculate that one of the many versions that are sure to follow the initial release might find its way onto Xbox One. I even indulged in that possible caveat a little myself.
However, that's not going to be the case. Speaking to a representative at Capcom, Gamespot got a crystal clear message from the publisher. This game will never be on the Xbox One, in any form. The representative said:
One comment we see a lot is that something like a Super Street Fighter 5 is going to come out on Xbox, but the reality is that this is a real partnership. We are console exclusive for this franchise for this numbered run.
We're not talking about how we're handling post-launch content, but I can say the relationship with Sony does open doors for things we haven't been able to do in the past.
The relationship serves a gameplay and development purpose, and not just a marketing value.
With this cleared up, it's really hard to understand how successful this acquisition could be for Sony. The fighting game community is deep and fiercely loyal. Ensuring they can only get their Street Fighter fix on consoles with PlayStation? That is huge.
