Samuel L. Jackson Will Bring Nick Fury To 'Captain Marvel'
Over the holiday weekend, there was a rumor that Nick Fury would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury hasn't been seen since a few brief scenes in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and before that he was shot. We don't know what kind of connection the upcoming Captain Marvel will have to the rest of the cinematic universe, but it looks like the rumors might have some truth to them.
Deadline is reporting that "when there's smoke, there's fire," and that the rumor about Fury being part of the upcoming superhero movie are true. Deadline did not confirm the rumors that he would have a starring role in the production — just that he is due to return.
Jackson has been vocal about his absence from the MCU, but since they decided to dump the concept of S.H.I.E.L.D., there hasn't really been a place for him yet.
Captain Marvel is due to go into production in January of 2018 with a March 8th, 2019 release date. Marvel and Disney have D23 and Comic-Con International in a few weeks to either confirm or deny any cast members for the film.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck were hired to direct the movie in April, and Oscar-winner Brie Larson was announced as the title character at Comic-Con International in 2016. Thus far we don't know anything else about the movie.
Marvel would not comment on the news, according to Deadline — so it could just be a rumor still.
