Simon West To Helm A Remake Of The Blob
One of the best known atomic age horror films is the 1958 classic The Blob and now it's in the process of being remade. Helming the new project will be director Simon West who has previously worked on Wild Cards, The Mechanic and Expendables 2.
The plot of the original film was simple: meteorite crashes on Earth, large gelatinous creature comes out of it and starts on a killing rampage. The most notable thing about the Paramount production was it starred a young Steve McQueen.
This is not the first time The Blob story was revisited. There was a sequel in 1972 called Beware! The Blob and a full on remake in 1988. Neither has garnered the same following as the original.
Perhaps the producers should look at casting Steven R. McQueen (The Vampire Diaries) in the role his grandfather had played… it would be a nice bit of nostalgia. And speaking of nostalgia, below is the trailer for the original The Blob.
