Student Stormtrooper Cosplay Causes School Evacuation On Star Wars Day

A young Star Wars cosplayer caused a major furor in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin today when the student's Stormtrooper costume reportedly caused their local high school to be evacuated. Reports from a concerned parent of someone wearing a strange costume led to the evacuation at Ashwaubenon High School, according to a report from local TV news station Fox 6, and a nearby middle school and community center were also placed "on lockdown."

Soon after, the local public safety department issued safety notices on Twitter to assure potentially panicked parents that there was no actual threat, and that the whole thing was a May 4th misunderstanding:

The school district also posted a message to Facebook promising that the student would be "held accountable" for the cosplay-gone-wrong, and encouraging parents to continue to report suspicious activities, saying, "If you see something, say something."

"We take all threats seriously because student safety is our number one priority," the statement said.
