Who Is Causing The Rise Of The Villains In Gotham Season 2?

The second season of the Fox hit series Gotham is being called Rise Of The Villains where we are supposed to see the bad guys becoming more powerful and taking a bigger hold on the city. The folks over at TV Guide have a theory of what the catalyst for the change may be… and if they're right, it could lead to one of the biggest baddies in the Batman rogue's gallery.

They put their theory together based on some quotes by executive producer Danny Cannon and around the arrival of James Frain as millionaire industrialist Theo Galavan.

Theo Galavan arrives in Gotham as a prodigal son returning. He comes from a very wealthy family with ancient roots in the building and foundation of Gotham. It takes a while for us to understand why he came back to Gotham and what his plan is, but it's an insidious one, obviously. He's a little bit like the Great Gatsby and Dracula coming to town with money and influence and charm and trying to bend to Gotham to serve him.

Cannon even came out to say that Theo is the origin of a very famous DC villain, one who uses other villains to help him achieve his goals.

This season is about how one man will unleash and empower the villains and make them understand that they are more powerful than the people fighting against them. They are the pioneers for Gotham. They are the ones who will change things because with chaos and destruction is the only way you can build. You can't rebuild a city without first destroying it.

All of that sounds familiar… So who do they think Theo Galavan really is?
