AMC Giving Comcast Customers Access To Premium, Ad-Free Service

AMC Networks announced that it will be offering Comcast subscribers access to AMC Premiere, a monthly extra-pay option that allows subscribers to watch AMC Networks' programming on-demand and ad-free both at home and on the go. AMC Premiere had a trial launch of the service on Friday, with early subscribers having access to current season shows like Preacher and Fear The Walking Dead, with new episodes available simultaneously with live broadcasts, as well as what AMC Networks describes as "an array of exclusive and first-look content and curated movies." Added features to the service are expected to be rolled-out over the next several months.
Currently, AMC Premiere is only available to Comcast customers via Xfinity set-top boxes as well as the Xfinity Stream website and mobile app. Plans are underway to also offer the service on AMC apps and AMC.com. As AMC Premiere grows over the next year, AMC Networks promises to offer (in their own words) "original content created specifically and exclusively for AMC Premiere." Expectations are that prior seasons of original series will also be offered eventually; as well as teasers for new shows or seasons, bonus/deleted scenes, and behind-the-scenes features.
With old-school cable dying a slow and painful death, a number of cable companies have started embracing "the enemy" and turning to the internet for salvation. HBO and Showtime are starting to offer online subscriptions that aren't tethered to a cable subscription. More and more services like Sling TV are giving consumers access to "a la carte'" subscription choices ("skinny bundling"), slowly leaving the days of having to pay for 200+ channels just to watch a dozen or two behind. Without major corporate backing, AMC wanted to make sure that it stayed on the forefront of changes to the way consumers access their content.
For Comcast General Manager of Video and Entertainment Services Matt Strauss, this partnership with AMC Networks demonstrates "a great example of the new and innovative ways programmers can go to market with content and provide viewers with even more choice in how, when and where they access and engage with the network."
