It's time for another look at the cold hard statistics of the North American direct market for comic stores, as supplied by Diamond Comic Distributors.
Last month, DC Comics took the marketshare top spot from Marvel Comics, a position they hadn't attained since September 2013 But just like in October 2013, Marvel has taken it back[...]
marketshare Archives
I understand that October comic book marketshare for North American direct market stores, to be revealed later this week, will reveal that Image Comics will have a unit marketshare of 12.28%.
Which means that Image has a 12.28% of all comic books sold in that market in October, though the share of dollars is likely to[...]
So what have we learned?
After month after month after month of seeing DC Comics losing marketshare to Marvel Comics, things ust changed Last month their dollar share fell from 25.94% to 23.65%, sixteen points behind Marvel's 39.27%, the greatest gap and the lowest level since before the New 52 relaunch In June however, DC are on 30.04% and[...]

Here's the official chart below.
Sales were up in 2013 on 2012, 9.04% in total, split between a rise of 10.22% in comics and graphic novels up 6.5%.Marvel took the top spots of marketshare for both numbers of comics sold (36.97% against DC's 33.35%) and revenue raised (33.50% against DC's 30.33%), but a series of moves[...]
Both Marvel and DC took under 30% of retail marketshare in November, 29.87% and 29.24% respectively While both have dipped under that psychologically important share point before, for both to have done so in the same month means something's up.
It's not a big drop for either based on October's figures, where Marvel had 30.47%and DC[...]
Recently I reported on Diamond's new policy to list how many titles each publisher has put out alongside their respective marketshare.
And how I was happy to do the necessary dividing to compare them So here is the marketshare per individual comic, or individual items (counting collections and magazines as well as single comics)
PUBLISHER (All[...]
Last month I reported on Diamond's new policy to list how many titles each publisher has put out alongside their respective marketshare.
And how I was happy to do the necessary dividing to compare them I also pointed out that Marvel and Dark Horse have pushed for this, as DC Comics have resisting And this month[...]
We won;t see the impact of that until the end of the year.
And year on year, 2013 is still doing better than 2012 so far, up 10.43% in dollars raised, significantly outperforming all other print industries,
DC have managed to put five titles in the top ten comics, alongside Marvel, with DC's Forever Evil taking the[...]
Diamond are now providing, alongside marketshare, a breakdown of how many titles and or what type, each publisher puts out each month.
They haven't lined up marketshare with separate titles shipped, let alone divided the first by the second But that's what Bleeding Cool is for.
I'm only able to use the data released so far, I'll[...]
In July, DC Comics had managed to pull ahead of Marvel Comics share of dollars, rising month on month from 28.27% to 29.57% to 32.50% while Marvel fell from 33.36% to 32.77% to 32.34%.
In August, this was reversed, with DC share falling to 30.16% and Marvel rising to 33.7% marketshare.
But in the actual amount[...]
Marvel's comic industry dollar marketshare slipped from May's 33.36% to June's 32.77% to July's 32.34% But DC jumped from 28.27% to 29.57% to 32.50%, pipping Marvel to the post for the first time in… quite a while.
Marvel still edged out DC when it came to actual number of comic books sold, with DC rising from[...]

In May, however, DC Comics managed to claw some of that back again, claiming 28.27% and[...]
February is coming, the marketplace is getting fat. But how can Marvel and DC squeeze an extra point in this month's statistics? By offering retailers
It was a five week month which generally benefits Marvel as they plan to publish more in the fifth week, but DC's recent dominance of the top ten was also challenged as well as their marketshare MarvelNOW! seems to be working…
September was a four week month, that saw DC dominate both the share of dollars spent[...]
Last month saw both Marvel and DC benefiting from Walking Dead #100 not taking away their marketshare, and saw DC again beat Marvel on marketshare by dollar but also saw Marvel claw back the volume marketshare But that was a five week month, in which Marvel generally does better by increasing product to fit the[...]
In August DC again beat Marvel on marketshare by dollar but this month, rarely Marvel clawed back the volume share Marvel traditionally have better five week months like August, as they produce comics to fill the extra week while DC are less likely to.
Both company's marketshare in both categories increased in August however, thanks mostly[...]
In May, DC Comics took had 36.72% of the sales numbers of and 32.73% of the dollars spent on comics through Diamond in North America. While Marvel had
I speculated that the release of news today about DC's Third Wave of New 52 titles may be because the monthly Diamond marketshare results were about to be released Bingo, but it's not bad news.
In April, DC Comics had 34.06% of the sales numbers of and 30.12% of the dollars spent In May, they had[...]

That DC Comics have taken the top unit marketshare for January, the number of actual comics sold While Marvel have taken the top dollar marketshare, for the revenue raised.
So both DC and Marvel are top in January Everybody wins!
However, also of note, I'm told by numerous sources now that in January, DC Comics have a[...]
Despite DC having a stellar end of year performance, their very rocky start to 2011 and Marvel's recovery in December seems to have given Marvel the edge in marketshare last year, though a reduced lead on 2010.
In 2011, Marvel had a 37% share of dollars spent on comics through Diamond Comic Distributors and 41% of[...]
There's some pretty good discussion on the details behind the numbers in the forum, well worth a look.

In September, DC Comics took back marketshare from Marvel Comics This gave DC the lead in both dollars spent and the number of comics bought in the North American direct market And October and November only consolidated that position as market leader.
In December, however, Marvel seem to have clawed some of that back They still[...]
It bears repeating that at the beginning of the year, DC Comics's marketshare figures had slipped in the twenties, lagging far behind Marvel That they have achieved three market share dominances three months in a row despite publishing far fewer titles than Marvel, is a real achievement for the publisher And it was Justice League[...]
The news of DC Comics topping Marvel by a significant margin in the monthly marketshare battle was the talk of the town today, even making its way into the mainstream outlets via the AP wire With the Avengers film & related comic plans on the one side, and Watchmen 2 on the other side, this[...]
This is nothing more than a rout by DC on Marvel's marketshare and chart position.
At the other end of the chart, last month, we pointed out that OMAC, written by co-publisher Dan DiDio was the worst selling of them all (although still at a respectable 82nd position) It's now dropped to 84, and a few[...]
