Agents of SHIELD Season 5: a Cataclysmic Event is Coming for 100th Episode

Back in the end of November, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD celebrated filming their 100th episode. It is normal for a series to do something big for their 100th. Arrow, which hit it's 100th episode during last years Invasion crossover worked in an It's A Wonderful Life style episode where Oliver (Stephen Amell) got to see life had he not gotten on the Queen's Gambit. They also pulled back in a bunch of previous cast members to make an appearance. One would think that Agents of SHIELD would so something big as well, but with the new format of mini-seasons, would that still happen?

Clark Gregg told EW.com that it definitely is.

Fans who hope that a 100th episode will contain something that will be a cataclysmic event or a gigantically resonate event for their feels after 100 episodes will not be disappointed.

If that isn't clear enough, before the season premiered, head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb told Comicbook.com:

Look, this is not going to come as a surprise to anyone that's ever seen a 100th episode, that there will be a significant event. That's all I can tell you. They gotta get home from space!

Well, that's kind of interesting and possibly a red herring. No one believed this whole season would take place 74 years in the future. And if the show was going to do the three mini-season format from last year, then the first part would need to wrap up around episode seven or eight. The 100th episode is going to be episode twelve of the season which is just over the halfway point. Will they leave the team in space for that long? My gut says no but we shall see.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs Fridays at 9 PM on ABC.
