Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is All In with AEW and Cody Rhodes
U.S. Congresswoman, comic book star, and conservative bugaboo Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has joined the ranks of supporters of upstart professional wrestling organization All Elite Wrestling, AOC revealed on Twitter Sunday. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted in support of another tweet quoting AOC executive Cody Rhodes on diversity in AEW, in which Rhodes refers to a past exchange with his wife, Brandi Rhodes. Cody recounts telling his wife that he doesn't see color, which prompted Brandi to respond, "well then you don't see my experience." Cody says being in an interracial marriage has helped with diversity in the new wrestling promotion. Brandi Rhodes also serves as an executive for AEW.
Retweeting the quoted exchange, Ocasio-Cortez hailed it as "a promising peek into what growth looks like in our national discourse on race," thanking Rhodes for sharing his experience in "this powerful moment."
Rhodes recently competed at AEW's first PPV event, Double or Nothing, where he defeated his brother Dustin Rhodes in a bloody grudge match. AEW is set to launch a weekly television on TNT later this year, and is viewed by many pro wrestling fans as the first legitimate competitor to WWE in the North American pro wrestling market since WCW folded nearly 20 years ago.
