Black Lightning Season 1: New Trailer Shows Family Fights Back

The CW has released a new trailer for their upcoming series Black Lightning. The new teaser focuses on the reason Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) first went into retirement and the reason he will come out. It also shows us a bit of the power that his daughters Anissa and Jennifer have.

The official synopsis says: Jefferson Pierce is a man wrestling with a secret. Nine years ago, Pierce was gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, which he used to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life and his family on the line, he left his Super Hero days behind. Almost a decade later, Pierce's crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

The series also stars Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce, China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce, Marvin "Krondon" Jones III as Tobias Whale, Jill Scott as Lady Eve, Chantal Thuy as Grace Choi, James Remar as Peter Gambi, and Damn Gupton as Inspector Henderson. The show comes from executive producers Greg BerlantiSalim Akil & Mara Brock Akil and Sarah Schechter is based on the DC Comic character created by artist Trevor Von Eeden and writer Tony Isabella in the pages of Black Lightning #1 (1977).

Black Lightning debuts January 16th at 9 PM after the return of The Flash on the CW.
