"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Season 7 "The Jimmy Jab Games II" Takes the Bronze – Sticks Surprise Landing [SPOILER REVIEW]

As a regular viewer of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, you might remember "The Jimmy Jab Games" from the second season when Peralta (Andy Samberg) launched the insane escapades to kill time while waiting for a motorcade. This week, the games are back – with Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) as the designated ring-leader… and by "designated", I mean he begged pathetically until he got his way.

Somehow, Fogel (Vanessa Bayer) found herself dragged into all of the craziness against her will – only to shatter her self-esteem even more (if that's even possibly) when she got eliminated during the first round and suffered a severe allergic reaction to turkey cold cuts. With Santiago (Melissa Fumero) and Terry (Terry Crews) off on an administrative workshop… Jake is left in charge? Owning a minivan somehow makes him less immature.

Let the outlandish competition commence, with costume changes and multiple rounds, "The Nine-Nine" is put through rigorous obstacles – from meat-throwing to the 'hellavator', with the winner receiving an extra day off. Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) decides to spice things up by betting with Jake for his car – feeling too much like an adult, Jake accepts the bet against Amy's wishes. Poor Amy is forced to forego her workshop and participate in the lunacy to ensure her husband doesn't lose. What follows is a Hitchcock under a medicinal high – making him superhuman.

Round 1, the team must make expired cold cuts stick to glass – apparently when bologna goes bad it's like superglue. Next up is the canine hide-n-seek – Jake strategizes hiding in a ceiling, while Hitchcock pops yet another pill which makes him smell like fish. Jake ends up flying through the air – actually he takes an eight foot dive to the floor, and lesson learned: "The Nine-Nine's" ceiling apparently can't support the weight of a man. Good to know.

Skully (Joel McKinnon Miller) is eliminated. Holt (Andre Braugher) and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) engage in a bizarre competition when Holt identifies her as his only true rival – the scenes between the two are one of the things other than the comedic anecdotes that I love about this show. In the middle of all this, Holt realizes that Diaz is suffering post-break up – and in an unconventional show of friendship, the two ditch the game to go sit in a bar and listen to heavy metal music.

Continuing with the game, the "hellevator" is up next: the remaining contestants suit up in bomb gear (seriously, who comes up with this stuff?) and must not exceed the elevator maximum capacity of four people – an interesting take on musical chairs. Amy sacrifices herself for Jake, who's barely mobile.

The wire challenge is up next – oh the reckless endangerment! Do they even own fire extinguishers? Jake successfully untangles the wires and drags himself on a pulley to turn on the lamp which explodes. These challenges all happened so fast, there was no room to stop my hysterical laughter and take a moment to breath.

I wonder if my 5-year-old could've given me CPR? Hmmm…

With the competitors down to Jake and Hitchcock for the win, Boyle unleashes the obstacle course. Their pathetic attempt to make it to the finish line – limping, bruised, and tired – culminates in Amy (yet again) saving the day by injecting Jake with an epi pen – thus, saving the minivan.

Meanwhile, Fogel closes out the ceremony by singing a horrific tune… and after being inspired by Boyle, steals a bunch of cocaine from the evidence room… WHAT?!?

To be continued. . .

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Season 7 "The Jimmy Jab Games II" Takes the Bronze – Sticks Surprise Landing [SPOILER REVIEW]

After three strong episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine right out of the gate, "The Jimmy Jab Games II" felt like a fun-yet-disposable episode that gave viewers a bit of a breather and set-up future storylines – with that last scene with Fogel making the top of the list.

Important Life Lessons:

  • You can do anything you put your mind to…
  • The real freak is the freak inside you…
  • Not even flames can grind a man down to dust…
  • Expired cold cuts do stick to glass…
  • Trust everyone!
