"Helsing", "JoJo's" & More: 5 Anime Deserving Live-Action Treatment

Before the masses descend upon me with fire and pitchforks, I am aware that speaking of live-action anime is taboo (insert bloody scream from the distance). However, I do believe that they could be fun if done well and I think there are some anime that lend themselves for live-action shows or movies. In the spirit of having some fun in "Imagination Land", here is a look at my top five anime that could easily make the transition from anime to live-action series – including Helsing, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and more:

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: I have not yet watched Jojo in its entirety, but so far it has been one of the most fun anime I have seen. More often than not, it is a combination of WTF?!? moments coupled with WTF?!? is actually going on here. It is so "extra" I cannot help but love every second of it and unable to take my eyes off of it.

Corrector Yui: My love for magical girl anime runs deep, we all know. However, out of the immense pool of Mahou Shojo goodness, Corrector Yui seems like it would be the perfect magical cyber girl to explore the genre in live-action. The fact that it takes place inside the intra-webs will make the change of scenery and pretty outfits make sense… in a way… ahem.

Helsing: I mean, who would not want to see Alucard should be the real question. The action throughout the anime would be a perfect fit for a live-action treatment. Not to mention, gore and vampires to add to the mix – and that never goes out of style. When I first saw this as a teenager, I was enthralled by the visuals and storytelling in Helsing… the pacing and the characters. I can only imagine a in-flesh-and-blood version of this anime would be amazing.

Wolf's Rain: A sort of a dystopian werewolf story with beautiful visuals in which werewolves have been haunted and are believed to be extinct. I think it would be a better live-action than Blood and Chocolate was (talk about great book and horrible movie… but back to my point). Wolf's Rain was haunting and suspenseful with an especially strong soundtrack to add to it.

Patlabor: For all of us who crave robots fighting and fighting being done in robots – essentially what I am saying is pretty much any kind of robot fighting –  this one was a no-brainer. I loved Patlabor growing up despite not many people around really knowing this one. I enjoyed the dynamic between our leads, Noa and Asuma—that sort of maybe-there-is-maybe-there-is-not romance. It would be fun to see that played out in the throes of seeing robots used for military purposes. Just thinking about this one I get excited.
