NXT Takeover: Stand and Deliver – How The Card Looks Right Now
NXT will be holding its biggest ever Takeover event the week of this year's WrestleMania. NXT Takeover: Stand and Deliver will be the brand's first-ever Takeover event to take place over the course of two nights, April 7 and 8. With two nights' worth of NXT action, that's a lot of matches to book. So how's it looking so far? Let's take a look!
NXT Championship Match – Karrion Kross vs Finn Balor
One match that has been announced is the show's main event, which will see the hard-charging monster Karrion Kross challenge NXT's greatest champion, Finn Balor for his title. They've really only just started to build this one, but this rivalry has already turned in some vicious moments on this past Wednesday's NXT episode and I'm sure there's plenty more to come on the road to Stand and Deliver (is that a thing? Like the road to WrestleMania? I'm making it a thing.).
NXT Women's Championship Match – Raquel Gonzalez vs Io Shirai
Usually in wrestling, we see a hungry star stepping-up and challenging the current champ for their title. Not in this case, as NXT Women's Champion Io Shirai was the one who selected powerhouse Raquel Gonzalez as her next opponent for her title. Shirai has been a fighting champion, taking on all comers, including a recent heated challenge from Toni Storm. But it would appear that now Shirai wants to add "giant-slayer" to her resume by taking on one of the biggest wrestlers in NXT's Women's division.
NXT Cruiserweight Championship Match – Jordan Devlin vs Santos Escobar
So here we have a bit of a pickle. Jordan Devlin was indeed the NXT Cruiserweight Champion, but when the COVID-19 pandemic occurred and travel restrictions were enacted here in the United States, Devlin was essentially trapped in his home country of Ireland, unable to defend the title here or anywhere. This led to NXT having a tournament to crown a new Cruiserweight Champion and that tournament was won by Santos Escobar. Well, now with vaccines available and travel restrictions lightening, Devlin has returned to the United States and is out to prove that he is indeed the true Cruiserweight Champion, something Escobar obviously disputes. The two will settle it the only way they know how…A hot dog eating contest! Or a wrestling match. Yeah, probably a wrestling match.
Adam Cole vs Kyle O'Reilly
So this one hasn't been officially booked yet, but we know it's coming, right? This is the most heated feud and the biggest storyline in NXT right now, so of course, they're going to have the blow-off at their biggest show of the year. The only thing really in question is the stipulations. What kind of match are we going to get to contain these two guys who want to literally kill each other? No hold barred? Steel cage? Hell in a Cell? Bra and panties? I'm sure we'll find out very soon!
There will definitely be way more matches announced between now and day one of NXT Takeover: Stand and Deliver. I can see Johnny Gargano vs Dexter Lumis, some kind of combination of Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher vs Imperium, and a number of other feuds that could come to a head at the two-night event. After all, that's a lot of time to cover, so expect all that and then some. Until then, we'll wait for NXT to make some official announcements.
