A Fictional Food Fight At New York Comic Con
Sofia Annunziata writes for Bleeding Cool:
The Fantasy Food Fiction panel is a follow up to my excursion at the Fantasy Food truck the other day. Per usual, I waited on a very long line for the panel, but was soon inside. The speakers attending were Brian Walton from Nerdist.com, Annette Cardwell from Wikia, Chris Avellone from the game Fallout, Rebecca Ford, from the game Warframe, "Two-Bears-High-Fiving" from the Fallout Wiki, and "Yazzy Dream" from the Gravity Falls Wiki.
They discussed the battle of the fantasy foods, in which fans selected their favorite fandom foods and submitted them to wikia. The foods then went through elimination rounds, with four foods emerging victorious! These four foods are the ones being served at the truck during NYCC. Out of the four foods, one winner was dubbed the fan favorite of 2014, and that winner was Gravity Falls' "Smile Dip"!
They also discussed the origins of some foods in popular culture. "Nuka Cola" from fallout is based on Coca-Cola, and is used to emphasize the 1950's theme of the game. Also mentioned was the fact that "Greedy Milk" from Warframe was completely fan created, and does not actually appear in the game. It was based on one sentence of dialogue in the game, and fans let their imaginations run wild.
The point about fantasy foods that I found most interesting was that the taste is up to you. Everyone has their own unique sense of what a fictional, food would taste like, because no one really knows.
There was also an intense round of trivia, for which one is rewarded a skip the line pass for the food truck (Sadly, I didn't get one).
I waited on line for the truck anyway and got to try Greedy Milk! It was a delicious concoction of ice cream and cookie bits, all in a conveniently sized bottle!
