Analyists Say PlayStation 4 Will Sell 23 Million More Consoles Than Xbox One By 2019
The Xbox One has been making serious ground up on the PlayStation 4 of late. Microsoft's console was slow to shift units after a series of PR disasters prior to launch, but a recent price drop has seen it come swinging back into the fight.
That won't matter too much by 2019 according to a report by Connected Home Devices (via IGN). They project that by that year, the PlayStation 4 will have sold 80 million consoles, leading far ahead the Xbox One who it projects will 'only' sell 57 million. This estimation would put the PlayStation 4 on pace with the PlayStation 2 rate, which was an absolute behemoth in terms of console sales. Here is a graph from the organisation showing the predictions.
Honestly, for me, I don't buy it. The Xbox One has righted the ship of late. Despite losing to the Playstation 4 in January, the Xbox One dominated the holiday period. If we had made early projections last generation, I'm sure the PlayStation 3 would have been lagging behind the Xbox 360 considerably. In reality, despite the 360 taking an early lead, the sales pretty much evened out at the end of the generation. I expect pretty much the same this generation.
