Brie Larson Talks Captain Marvel Training, How Surreal All of This is for Her
We haven't seen an image or footage from Captain Marvel yet, but we are getting some new information from the stars involved. This time we're not getting new story details, but Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson did talk about she's learned a lot about herself during this production.
Variety was on the red carpet for Crystal + Lucy Awards and spoke to Larson, who was receiving a Women in Film award.
"I will say that I learned that I'm much stronger than I realize in playing her," Larson said.
Ever since she got the part, Larson admits that a lot of this has felt extremely surreal to her, and that is part of a personal defense mechanism.
"A lot of my life recently has felt like it's happening to somebody else," she explained. "I think part of it is a defense mechanism. It feels better to kind of continue to have my own understanding of myself, rather than one that was put on me by the outside world."
Larson, like any other actor that plays a superhero, trained extensively for the role, and learning she could lift so much weight has really changed how she views herself.
"My highest right now is 215 lbs. in deadlifts. 400 lb. hip thrusts," she shared, while stating, "being able to lift weight like that really changed my perspective and understanding of myself."
Captain Marvel has been in production since 2013, and Larson admits that being part of a production that has taken this long has taught her a lot.
"Going through a movie that requires so much and takes this long, I'm realizing I'm way stronger than I knew," she said.
A featurette for Captain Marvel was shown at CineEurope, but it's unlikely that footage will be released. At the moment we don't know when we'll see our first footage from this entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we can hope it's soon.
Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.
Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, will also star Brie Larson, Jude Law, Gemma Chan, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Samuel L. Jackson. The film is set for release on March 8th, 2019.
