"Flashback" Flashes Back – "Magic: The Gathering"

During GenCon 2019 this past weekend, Wizards of the Coast unveiled their newest Commander deck themes for Magic: The Gathering. What's more, they revealed that on each day from August 5th-8th, they are revealing a new decklist. The themes are Morph, Madness, Populate, and Flashback, themes that are very popular for many players.

Today, Wizards of the Coast is spoiling cards for the Flashback deck specifically, and will be spoiling the full decklist via The Command Zone channel on YouTube.

Of course, we here at Bleeding Cool will be going over the newly-spoiled cards, and discussing what is missing from the Flashback deck (giving the players room to improve their decks). For the time being, however, the most recent spoilers will be the topic of this article in particular.

With that being said, it is time to move on to the new cards spoiled for the Mystic Intellect deck.

Sevinne, the Chronoclasm

Sevinne, the Chronoclasm is the face card of the Mystic Intellect deck. While Sevinne is very useful when flashing cards back with the main mechanic of the precon, Sevinne is also relatively good at avoiding removal magic since so much removal comes from damage in particular. Sevinne shines most, however, when you cast spells from your graveyard, as they will then be copied, which gives you twice as much value.

So far, unlike yesterday when the two alternative commanders were spoiled ahead of my article, today we have one spoiled alternative commander for the deck (note: while Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero is a legendary creature who's been revealed already, his color identity precludes him from being a commander for Mystic Intellect). Much like Rayami, who I showcased yesterday, this commander is also very unique.

Pramikon, Sky Rampart

Pramikon, Sky Rampart is a legendary Wall, which happened to be a highly requested creature type among casual Magic players. While it does not further support the Flashback theme of the deck, Pramikon is interesting as it provides an effect which was last seen in another Commander release, back in 2013. Mystic Barrier and cards like it greatly support a "pillow fort" theme often used to discourage attacks by opponents, and Pramikon is no different. However, unlike Mystic Barrier, if Pramikon is your commander, it can be recast from the command zone, providing even more lasting protection.

Dockside Extortionist

In lieu of a third commander option, as that has not yet been revealed, I wanted to showcase Dockside Extortionist. This Goblin card is certainly a blowout of a Magic: the Gathering card. Because so many people play artifacts and enchantments throughout their Commander games, the Extortionist's ability to generate massive amounts of Treasure tokens is phenomenal. This card will surely see play in more competitively-tuned red decks. Plus, it's a Goblin Pirate. What's not to love?

Notable Magic: the Gathering Reprints

When the Magic content creators were given spoilers, many of them were offered reprints for their reveal. A few of these are quite notable, including (but not limited to) Clever Impersonator, Ghostly Prison, and Ral Zarek. These cards are popular among many Magic players for their ability to shape a game of Commander if they hit the battlefield.

Magic: the Gathering – Commander 2019 will be released in English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian, and is slated to hit shelves on August 23rd.
