(Marvel Comics, creative team: Chip Zdarsky, Jorge Fornes, Nolan Woodard, Clayton Cowles)
This issue has one setting: "holy crap." A mobster's granddaughter has been kidnapped from Hell's Kitchen, an area where billionaires have forced the police to withdraw. Complicated? It gets deeper. The title character has hung up his horns but can't resist using his actual best power to try and save the girl. The tension is deep as there are motivational speeches and family squabbles and even a shocking murder, but it's all pushing the red line without any ebb and flow to create dramatic tension. There is no way you could say this is bad, especially with the perfectly moody but crystal clear imagery. Sadly, this is not a story, it's just part of a gripping second act. This will likely be a transcendent part of a collected edition. RATING: HONORABLE MENTION
