Atlantis: We Know What Happened – A Kickstarter Project

Malinda Coler writes for Bleeding Cool:

Hemingway once said that "good books are alike in that they are truer than if they had really happened."  After reading Arin Leviti's story of Atlantis, I knew that it had happened. Now I want it to happen for more people.

Atlantis: The Last Survivor, begins in a world so corrupt that nature itself has turned against the people and land.  Only a few remain who remember the spiritual roots of Atlantis.  Among them are Agathon's parents, something of radical hippies to their 18 year old son, but not for long.

Agathon has lived in hiding all of his life, doubting the power of the crystal flux, the life energy his parents believe can restore the land.  The High Priestess, who has abused the powers of the flux for her own evil purposes, sends her minions to flesh the "rebels" out of the land.  As Agathon's parents are murdered, he is forced out of hiding and left to the mercy of the High Priestess.  His fate now rests on his own beliefs, a forbidden lover, and an unexpected ally in the ranks of the oligarchy. Will he make it?!

After my enthusiastic response, Arin shared the story with more people, including  popular comic artist, Denis Medri.  With over ten years of experience, his art appears in comics by Marvel, Dark Horse, IDW and more.  Medri shared my same passion for Atlantis and suggested adapting it to a graphic novel.

I was ecstatic.  Only a few months prior, I'd begun working at a small startup where we make interactive graphic novels for iPad and other devices.  The very first project we worked on, CIA: Operation Ajax, won numerous awards.  I had fallen in love with it, and suddenly saw how I could be a part of Atlantis.

As such, a very unique team had been formed.  Arin, an Italian screenwriter from London; Medri, a popular comic artist in France, and me, a producer for digital comics in San Francisco.   All of the pieces were in place, except for one very key piece, money.   Where do you go when you have a fantastic story but no money?  Kickstarter!

With zero budget, we worked together to build a small prototype of the Atlantis app and created a Kickstarter campaign.  Our campaign runs until October 2.  We have fantastic rewards, including art signed by Denis, postcards written from the lost island of Atlantis by our own characters, phone conversations with Arin or our soundtrack composer, Liz Cirelli, and many more.  For Bleeding Cool readers, we're adding a bonus reward.

If you donate this weekend at any reward level, we will throw in a t-shirt featuring original Atlantis art by Denis Medri. Don't let Atlantis sink, check out our Kickstarter page now!
