Booze Geek – Bloodline Blood Orange And Predator

By Dylan Gonzalez

Beer: Bloodline Blood Orange IPA

Brewery: Flying Dog Brewery

ABV: 7%

IMG_2986Of all the out there things that have been added into beer, blood orange has to be one of my favorites. The sweet and succulent fruit adds such a fresh quality to an IPA. Thus, I was very happy when I had a bottle of Flying Dog's Bloodline.

Bloodline was an amber color and poured a long lasting head of medium thickness. There was lots of active carbonation visible. It gave off the scent of citrusy hops and surprisingly not much of the blood orange.

When I got to drink it, I found the beer was not overly bitter, making it quite drinkable. There was a very nice presence of blood orange that appeared about midway through a swallow and was prominent on the finish. The sweet nature of the blood orange made Bloodline incredibly drinkable, also making it slightly dangerous with its 7% ABV. On the palate, you sense the carbonation but was otherwise pleasant to drink.

Overall, this beer was killer. The blood orange gave it a really distinctive character and made it super delicious. If you can find this one, I strongly suggest getting it.

What to Drink This To:

poster1Almost instantly, Bloodline made me think of Predator, one of favorite films to rewatch just about whenever. I fell in love with Predator back in high school and to this day remains one of the few films I never get tired of watching over and over again. I think the design of the Predator alien is one of the best and the film boasts some truly incredible practical effects. To be honest, Ahnuld is pretty good in the film, too, as the Predator's main prey, Dutch, not to mention the supporting cast is great too. So I would recommend a cold pack of Bloodline to go alongside a viewing of Predator.
