Brisson, Ferrier, Howard, Pires, Rangel, Sebela Launch New Comic Publisher, Two Headed Press, Before NYCC
Hannah Means-Shannon writes,
Six prominent comic book creators are today announcing the launch of a new comics imprint, Two Headed Press (2HP).
Ed Brisson (The Violent), Ryan Ferrier (Curb Stomp), Tini Howard (Secret Loves of Geek Girls), Curt Pires (The Forevers), Fabian Rangel Jr. (Doc Unknown), and Chris Sebela (Welcome Back), all known for their pioneering work in creator-owned comics, have banded together under the new imprint. 2HP sets out to present "an emphasis on offbeat, transgressive stories delivered to readers through crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter."
As a "curated" imprint, the individual members of the imprint will run their own Kickstarter campaigns, but will receive the support of other members in "cross-promotion, endorsement and behind the scenes advising to help" with the goal of building "a library of independent, creator-owned comics outside the established circle of publishers."
Those goals are impressive, and suggest that 2HP sets out to create, through a confederation, a body of work to rival the unified publishing lines of existing publishers, much like the early days of Image Comics.
The first comic that will appear under the 2HP imprint will be Fabian Rangel and Javier Caba's Blood Brothers (Los Hermanos Sangre), which you may have noticed rocketing through Kickstarter recently, funded at 85% in the first 24 hours of the campaign.
Blood Brothers is described as:a supernatural pulp OGN that tells the story of two brothers — the hard boiled detective and the luchador — who use their skills to solve strange crimes in a world where the border between reality, fantasy and mythology has been smashed to bits."
The imprint has also released a list of upcoming works by team members, including a second volume of Ed Brisson and Adam Gorham's The Violent (Volume 1 from Image Comics), an as of yet untitled volume described as a "comedy/crime/cooking comic" by Christopher Sebela, George Kambadis and Lesley Atlansky, and, lastly, a "bold new political series" by Curt Pires, Alex Diotto and Dee Cuniffe called Reality.
As we can see from the range of announced books, the tone of the imprint is inclusive of genres and styles, with the primary unifying factor being group support of titles and complete ownership for creators.
We look forward to seeing what Two Headed Press sets out to do—but in many ways simply by looking at the work of these already prolific creators we can get a sense of what's on the way—but driven by greater collective goals for mutual success.
Best of luck to Two Headed Press from Bleeding Cool!
