"Friend Or Fraud?" Three Reasons Why You Should Read Clean Room #5
This week brings the fifth issue of Clean Room from Vertigo, written by Gail Simone, with art by Jon Davis-Hunt. It's safe to say that I've enjoyed every single issue of the series so far, and as they progress, my emotional involvement in the comic continues to grow. You should be reading Clean Room, and if you're not…here are three reasons why…
One: The level of terrifying is addicting. I'm not a fan of scary movies, scary books, or scary anything really. However, the way this comic is written is so brilliant, so clever. I enjoy flipping through every page no matter how terrified I am. There's a difference between a jump scare, and something that creeps inside your brain and stays with you because it's that haunting. Clean Room is that haunting.
Two: Astrid Mueller. She might just be one of the most twisted fascinating characters of all time. She's clearly been through a lot, and we get to see some of it in the first few issues. As her past is slowly revealed, it still doesn't add up to how she could be so crazy. She has an empire, one that has many layers, and a lot of people supporting it. We've all heard of self-help gurus, and some of them tend to give me the creeps. However, none of them irk me the way Astrid does.
Three: If you don't read it Gail Simone says…
I don't know about you…but I don't want to deal with all that. Besides, Secret Six #11 has Batgirl in it. Totally worth it!
