How Jim Lee And Red Sonja Helped Liam Sharp Draw Wonder Woman Comics

Liam Sharp sat down in the DC Comics Art Academy for the second time and the artist who has seen quite a resurgence since joining the Wonder Woman comic with Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott decided to again not draw Wonder Woman. In his first visit a while back, he drew Cheetah. In the latest installment, Sharp went with another villain, the armored Ares. He starts off drawing and talking about how he wanted to make Ares helmet come across as if it was almost a battering ram, merging together a design between the recent New 52 version and the classic George Perez look. Sharp says, where there have been a lot of great runs on Wonder Woman, he is a particular fan of the Brian Azzarello and Bernard Chiang version for the New 52.

Sharp also tells the story of how he got the Wonder Woman job, having heard it was open around Thanksgiving in 2015 and going home and seeing a very detailed oriented piece he had done of Red Sonja sitting on his desk… he realized that he could do Wonder Woman in that style. He slept on it, dreamt about it, woke up and texted the image to his friend Jim Lee, saying: "You could do Wonder Woman like this." And Jim replied: "Hell yeah, you could. Have you done any Wonder Woman?" Sharp told him no but he'd get him a piece by the next day. He did up a sample and sent it to Jim who loved it and championed him to be the next Wonder Woman artist.

Sharp says his whole experience on the project has been magical and it's like Diana came and told him he was going to do the book.
