Judge Dredd Thesis On Modern Policing in 2000AD October 2022 Solicits

2000AD and Judge Dredd first saw print in 1977. In 2022 it is still going strong, And Judge Dredd, from Pat Mills, Alan Grant and John Wagner, became the most recognisable character in the comic. A satirical critique of the way it looked like police were going, especially American police, turning them into one man judge, jury and executioner, the Judges showed that whatever the intent, absolute power corrupts and the power of the Judges on the streets of Mega City One had huge implications for the city they were there to govern. The Judges' biggest problem were what their very presence did to the soul of the city. And later this year, 2000AD brand manager and former Dredd model, Michael Molcher, is writing I Am The Law: How Judge Dredd Predicted Our Future, to be published by 2000AD/Rebellion, a book looking at this very contradictive nature of the Judge Dredd character, in a world where the actions of police are under greater critique than ever before. To be published on the 23rd of November, here are all of Rebellion;s October 2022 solicits and solicitations.

Judge, jury and executioner, Judge Dredd is the brutal comic book cop policing the chaotic future urban jungle of Mega-City One, created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra and launching in the pages of 2000 AD in 1977. But what began as a sci-fi action comic quickly evolved into a searing satire on hardline, militarized policing and "law and order" politics, its endless inventiveness and ironic humour acting as a prophetic warning about our world today-and with important lessons for our future. Blending comic book history with contemporary radical theories on policing, I Am The Law takes key Dredd stories from the last 45 years and demonstrates how they provide a unique wake up call about our gradual, and not so gradual, slide towards authoritarian policing.
