More Twisted…More Madness: Clean Room #3 Review
It just keeps getting more twisted. The plot unfolds nicely in the third issue of Clean Room, from Vertigo Comics, written by Gail Simone, with art by Jon-Davis Hunt. This issue takes us all over the map as we experience what's going on inside the Clean Room, and what our main character is up to. As Astrid faces some deeper levels in the Clean Room, an unexpected visitor seeks Chloe out. In both cases, there's a fair amount of trouble.
[WARNING: SPOILERS FOR CLEAN ROOM #3 BELOW!]
Poor Chloe Pierce. This girl is certainly headed for trouble, and Gail Simone knows just how to amp up the suspense levels to drive us mad. This comic has so many layers. I've felt positive about it since the first issue, and as the story unfolds I'm growing to like it in a different way. The psychological torment that these characters are going through is fascinating to watch. Simone allows us to sit back and watch the madness unravel, but provides us with reasons to care about these characters and what they're going through. Without spoiling too much, I started to see a glimpse of something interesting in Astrid. Since the first issue, we've known about her traumatic childhood and we can only assume that because of that she's created this twisted corporation. However, there is still a chance that she's got a heart beneath the piercing white jump suit. Artist Jon-Davis Hunt will be responsible for my nightmares tonight. The otherworldly being that pays Chloe's house a visit made me want to close the comic and curl up in a ball. That's how you know it's good.
It will be interesting to see what happens next. Clean Room #3 ends on a massive cliffhanger, one that excites me for what's to come, but terrifies me at the same time. This comic generates a lot of questions in my brain, and I like the idea that they're being answered as time goes on. Even though we're watching the characters go through psychological turmoil, as a reader, it sticks with you. I can only hope that I don't start seeing pink creepy creatures in my room. Don't miss out on this new issue of Clean Room.
