On the 12th of December, Arsenal Comics & Games in Newbury Park, California, posted the following missive.
"As much as it pains me to ask for help, I have to put aside my pride and level with you. This location has not been doing well for some time. I have done as much as possible to hustle, work the numbers, promote, but even with the help of some great staff and awesome customers it has just gotten too hard to get through this really difficult year for Arsenal. Things can't continue the way they have been and it's finally time to consider closing the Newbury Park location if things don't pick up. We have so much fun stuff planned to counter our slowest months of January and February but to even get that chance we need to have an awesome Holiday Season. I mean, one for the record books! It hurts my heart to be spending my time writing this instead of working on a new Christmas commercial but I really believe we have some awesome fans out here in the Conejo Valley who want to have a place to go play games and get all the latest comics they can't get anywhere else. Whether you have a pull file, or a shopping list for the people close to you, we'd love to help you out. And if you're not local, feel free to head over to our website and order something to let us know you're out there rooting for us. And if everything goes well, I'll be back here next season filming a brand new legendary Christmas commercial for your Arsenal Newbury Park!"

Well, it seems that things did pick up. And now the customers of Arsenal Comics & Games in Newbury Park, California are getting their reward. Owner Timmy Heague told Bleeding Cool, "the support we got was quite nice and ABSOLUTELY helped improve the stores sales significantly compared to how they were prior to the post but we're definitely still not out of the woods and home safe yet. One thing we did not see coming through was not just did we get a response from our customer community but also from the industry. Friends of the store writer Jordan Blum and actor/comedian/comic book writer Patton Oswalt reached out wanting to see if we'd be interested in throwing a massive signing mini-convention type event to help us get through the slow retail month of January. We, of course, obliged gladly. What soon came into fruition was Arsenal Live 2024"
