Preorder Basilisk #2 2nd Print Before It Quadruples In Price Like #1
We've been telling you that Cullen Bunn and Jonas Scharf's new series Basilisk could be publisher Boom Studios' next Something Is Killing The Children for some time. With THR's reporting last week that Netflix is developing James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera's SIKTC as a series with Haunting of Hill House's Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, and with both Basilisk #2 second printing and Basilisk #3 up for Final Order Cutoff today, it seems like the right time to revisit the series.
Basilisk was already Bunn's best-selling series when the first issue FOC'd a couple of months ago. Now it appears that it seems to be catching the market's attention beyond that initial interest following every Boom launch these days. Issue #1 sold out the week of release and the second printing was briskly ordered by retailers who needed more copies. Those copies don't appear to have been enough to satiate demand as it's been fetching between $10 and $15 or more on eBay as of late. Or perhaps it's Free Comic Book Day's Enter The House Of Slaughter first look in the back of that second print that we tipped you off to. Either way, it probably isn't a bad idea to preorder a copy of the Basilisk #2 second printing available at cover price while it's still possible today ahead of FOC.
But those sales pale in comparison to the Boom Studios webstore exclusive that the publisher dropped a few weeks back. Like Skybound's Comic Vault Live, it looks Boom's limited-edition exclusives might be a sound investment for collectors. Limited to just 275 copies, and originally sold to fans for the bargain price of $20, the few copies that have popped up on eBay have sold for $80, $150, and $160. But that all pales to the copy that sold for $250… over 12 times its original sales price. Savvy collectors might want to keep an eye out for future Boom webstore exclusives dropping, which have only been announced through the publisher's social media channels just ahead of the exclusive being made available.
And while we're offering helpful advice, may we point you toward Basilisk #3, also up on FOC today? In addition to further peeling back the mystery Bunn and Scharf are weaving in the series, the issue also has a first appearance of a new character who seems tied to the deadly Chimera. In particular, the variant cover by New Mutants artist Rod Reis features that same character's first cover appearance. Basilisk #2 second printing and Basilisk #3 are both on Final Order Cutoff today, Monday, July 12th.
