Greg Berlanti Inks $400 Million Deal with Warner Bros. Television

Super-producer Greg Berlanti, who has a record 14 scripted series in production, has just signed a four-year contract extension reported to be worth $400 million. His current contract was believed to have two more years on it will now keep him with Warner Bros. TV through 2024, which would make him 51 at the time. According to THR.com, this is only for television, Berlanti has a film contract with Fox.

Though other studios were interested in the prolific producer, it's said the Berlanti greatly values loyalty and didn't take a meeting with anyone. The deal was aggressively pushed for by Warners CEO Kevin Tsujihara and WBTV president Peter Roth. The deal is being called a huge payday with Berlanti cashing out the back-end points on some of his series and having bonus incentives built in based on the number of shows he produces.

The 14 live-action scripted series air on six different networks and he has two animated series on a seventh. He continues as executive producer on All-American, Arrow, Black Lightning, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Riverdale and Supergirl on The CW; Blindspot on NBC; God Friended Me and The Red Line on CBS; The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for Netflix; Doom Patrol and Titans for the DC Universe streaming service and Freedom Fighters: The Ray and Constantine: City of Demons on CW Seed.

The move makes a lot of sense for Warner Bros. TV at a time when Netflix, Apple, and Amazon are aggressively going after talent like Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy. Warners is believed to be trying to lock in a deal with J.J. Abrams next for both film and television.
