Movie Mini-Rushes – Kick-Ass Wants You, Val Kilmer Wants Heat 2 And More
Ed Brown has had a run at compiling some Rushes for us, a collection of bits and pieces that didn't make it to full headline story status by themselves. Not a huge amount, but it kept him busy, right?
In the first official still from Anthony DiBlasi's Paymon, Officer Jessica Loren has something to worry about. Considering on DiBlasi's current track record, whatever she's shining her torch on will not look pretty. [shocktillyoudrop]
Philip Seymour Hoffman has jouned the already brimming cast of Child 44. He will appear alongside Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman and Paddy Considine in the Stalin-era conspiracy crime thriller. [Deadline]
Since The Lord Of The Rings, Elijah Wood has shot off in vastly different directions. For now, at least, he seems to have settled into horror. He had this to say about his new horror-focused production company Spectre Vision:
We started the company because my partners and I are fans of the genre and we wanted to be involved in the making of genre and horror films we love and want to see.
Currently lined up are Cooties, about a zombie virus that infects those who going through puberty, and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, an Iranian vampire film. And there's a lot more to come apparently. [shocktillyoudrop]
Private Practice's Amy Brenneman has joined the HBO pilot, The Leftovers. Damon Lindelof's drama is set after the Rapture has finally happened, and will see how the survivors deal with the fallout. But Brenneman won't be alone in the apocalypse, she will be joined by Gimme Shelter's Emily Meade. [Deadline]
Television and radio presenter Paul O'Grady is set to star in Holby City. He will portray a cancer patient called Tim Connor. It's certainly an interesting casting choice, considering the seriousness of the role and O'Grady's typically vibrant attitude, especially when Holby executive producer Oliver Kent describes him as "incredibly funny". [BBC]
Val Kilmer discussed possible Top Gun and Heat sequels with Larry King. There's not a lot of solid stuff apart from Kilmer saying he'd like to do them, but he does have a plot idea for a Heat 2, if anyone's interested.
The videos are through Hulu so you may need to be in the US to watch them. [The Wrap]
Netflix pushes further into the youth market with another kid-targeted original series, Mako Mermaids. This spin-off of Australian teen drama H2O: Just Add Water has been announced following Netflix's massive deal with Dreamworks for over 300 hours of original programming. [Deadline]
Kick Ass wants YOU! to join Justice Forever, in a viral marketing campaign that kind of falls flat. Aaron Johnson dons the costume again in the video below:

And that's what Ed managed for us. Let me leave you with a clip from Trap For Cinderella. The best bit of the film? Oh no. But, hey, that makes a change, doesn't it?
