Terry Brooks' Shannara In Development As MTV Series From Jon Favreau And Smallville Creators
They're the highest-grossing fantasy books that have yet to be adapted for screen, but that's all about to change. Deadline reports Terry Brooks' Shannara is headed for MTV – home of Teen Wolf – and Jon Favreau, along with Smallville creators Miles Millar and Al Gough are overseeing it.
Brooks' epic fantasy series, which consists of 25 books so far, with at least 4 more on the way, follows – as far as I am understanding this correctly – the Shannara family in the Four Lands, which is earth long after it's been destroyed by a nuclear holocaust called the Great Wars. Civilization has reverted back to a Medieval-like society wherein magic reappeared to "supplement science."
Fantasy storytelling, man. The series will be based on the second book in the original trilogy, The Elfstones Of Shannara, which is a fan favorite and which luckily has plenty of young hotties and romance to keep MTV's target audience interested.
