The First Episode Of Double Dare In 16 Years, At San Diego Comic-Con
By Will Romine, Age 32
Hello all. Another San Diego Comic Con is in the bag. It's not my first time saying "good bye" to the king of cons, and it never gets easier. No matter what happens during those five magical days, at the end of it, I always think to myself "This was the best SDCC ever. There's no way next year's can top this." The next year I'm invariably proven wrong. This year really was the best SDCC ever. If history proves correct, I'll eat my words in 358 days. For now, I will reflect on the SDCC that was.
The stand-out moment for me had to be the return of Double Dare. The folks at Nickelodeon were nice enough to invite me to FLUXX Nightclub for the live streaming of the first new episode of Double Dare in 16 years. Participating as contestants in this historic evening were the cast of the classic Nick show All That. Danny Tamborelli (Little Pete), Kel Mitchell (Ed from Good Burger and he who loves Orange Soda), Lori Beth Denberg (provider of Vital Information), and Josh Server (Walter the Ear Boy). Voice actor Greg Cipes (Michelangelo, Beast Boy) was also on hand to play. To see the stars of my favorite Old School Nick show compete on my favorite Old School Nick gameshow was a dream come true. My one regret is that I couldn't join in the fun. That is, until the next day. I was walking down the street, and this happened.
I can finally cross something off my bucket list that I didn't even know was there. Nickelodeon will include my adventure as part of their Double Dare marathon on The Splat. The Marathon started on Monday, July 25 and will continue all this week. The programming lineup will feature brand-new Double Dare game interstitials, the most memorable moments from the game show and episodes from the original series, Family Double Dare, and Double Dare 2000.
The Splat is a programming block on Nickelodeon which airs daily from 10pm-6am and features landmark Nick shows, aka 90% of my childhood.
