Thursday Runaround – Super President Saves The Day?AnalogyWatch: CNN comparing Obama to Clark Kent and Superman.

If you're President Obama, you've had a bit of a transformation. That is, from the mild-mannered Clark Kent into, well, Superman.

Or something like that.

BookieWatch: Forbes bets on DC over Marvel.

The anticipation of the new releases every week has been nothing short of mind-blowing. Comic shops can't keep the titles in stock.  Some are selling out within hours of being put on the shelf, if they even make it to the shelf.  Whether DC will be able to maintain momentum after the first 52 issues are released remains to be seen, but it seems clear that they are going to pick up a healthy population of new readers—some of whom are fed up with Marvel's less than stellar stories of late.

UniversityWatch: The University of Iowa embraces comics.

The UI will next host a symposium, "Comics, Creativity, and Culture," sponsored by the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies and International Programs (among others) from Oct. 5 to 8. MuseumWatch: In Phoenix…

The comic book kingdom's unsung heroes will get their due when editor and critic Dan Nadel, author of several books on visionary cartoonists, discusses the future of the genre on Thursday, September 22, at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, 7374 East Second Street. Local artist Jon Haddock, whose work is featured in the museum's ongoing graphic art exhibition IDIOS KOSMOS: KOINOS KOSMOS, will also weigh in.

StoreWatch: World's Best Comics of Sacramento gets profiled.

"You had Tower Books on one side and Tower Records on the other side," Downey says. "It was really a busy hot spot." When Tower closed, Downey opened a store at his current location, 2608 Watt Avenue, near Country Club Lanes.

And what a store it is! One step inside and you'd swear a color bomb exploded. Plush toys hang over customers' heads from the ceiling. Old action figures and busts adorn the walls, and the comics decorate the shelves, beaming their multihued glory to all. It's nearly impossible to avoid being overcome by a mixture of nostalgia and surprise.

PayWatch: Ian Rankin talks about writing comics.

"Dark Entries was really hard work – a lot harder than I thought it would be. I was asked by DC Comics to work on the novel with Italian artist Werther Dell'Edera. It took as long as a full length novel to write but the money wasn't as good."

FundWatch: Artist Bevis Musson is trying to get to ThoughtBubble in Leeds

"but am horribly short of cash so am auctioning off the Batman villains drawing I did a while back."

They say I am a work in progress. The fools.
