The Original Batman '66 Strips Come To IDW

IDW Publishing is at it again, collecting classic comic strips into hard bound books. This time they take aim at the Batman Silver-Age newspaper strips. IDW has won Eisner and Harvey awards for their Library of American Comics archival works and with the caped-crusader their goal is to do a matching format to the previously released Silver-Age Superman book.

The Batman comic strip debuted in the middle of the Batmania created by the Adam West/Burt Ward television series. The strip was written by Batman editor Whitney Ellsworth and drawn by Shelly Moldoff, Joe Giella and Carmine Infantino. The strip was very well received by readers.

"Ellsworth and the artists perfectly captured the flavor of the television show," collection editor Dean Mullaney says. 'It's a tremendous amount of fun, both as nostalgia and as a unique creation of its time."

The first volume of the reprints will feature the B&W dailies and color Sunday strips from 1966 to 1967, which included appearances by Catwoman, The Penguin, The Joker, Poison Ivy and Batgirl. The 11 x 8.5 " hardcover will be 256 pages and include an introduction by Joe Deris and a dust jacket by Pete Poplaski.
