Who Is Robbie Reyes / The Ghost Rider In The Comics
With all of the noise being made by Marvel TV and ABC about the upcoming appearance of Robbie Reyes / Ghost Rider on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, it might be a good time to look at who Robbie Reyes is in the comic books.
Reyes is a mechanic living in a bad part of Los Angeles and taking care of his younger brother Gabe. He entered a street race in hopes of using the prize money to move to a better neighborhood, but while in the race he got chased by what he thought were the police and his escape lead to him in a dead end. When he got out to explain, the mysterious chasers opened fire, killing him. Unbeknownst to Reyes, the car he was using was inhabited by a ghost who took over his body and chased after his killers, taking out some of them while others got away.
He communicates with the spirit / demon through his reflection, agreeing to work together to seek vengeance against those who have done him wrong.
He was created by Tradd Moore and Felipe Smith for All-New Ghost Rider #1 in 2014. There are some similarities between this incarnation of Ghost Rider and a 2003 reworking of the Demon for DC Comics by Joshua Dysart and Pop Mahn.
Marvel recently released a 101 video about The Spirit of Vengeance – Robbie Reyes.
