Singularity Is Marvel's Genderfluid Version Of Superman (SPOILERS)

When the baby Kal-El was first discovered by the Kents, he appeared to Jonathan Kent as a white baby boy.

If he had landed in Somalia, and been discovered by someone else, would he have looked very different?

Marvel already has a few Superman-analogue characters. Gladiator, Sentry, Hyperion and more. Well, time to add a new one. A female one? Not quite.

Today's A-Force, set on the Secret Wars Battleworld is a pretty damn fine superheroic comic books, with thumped sharks, rousing cries, emotional tugs and… the first appearance of Singularity.

According to a USA Today, she is a a pocket universe that gained sentience during the multiversal collapse.

But is "she" the right term? Writer G Willow Wilson told the paper,

She also doesn't have any real gender, yet Singularity chooses to be female.

With her Wilson says they want to "strip it all the way down to the basics: What does it mean to be a woman and what would that look like to somebody who was learning about the human race as an outsider and is learning about what it means to have relationships with other people."

Nico Minoru, Sister Grimm, is present when she lands from the heavens like a meteorite and is there to discover her – and the form she takes. As a "she".

Who are you? Who is anyone? Welcome to the only genderfluid member of A-Force. A guess this counts as a first appearance, though collectors may also want to look at the Marvel Previews volume from a few weeks back for this page as her first cameo…

Though this issue does end with something a little more substantial.

Who is she? Who are any of us?
