Art Piece Or Toy? Kidrobot's It's A F.A.D. Dunny 20" By J*RYU
The more and more I see toys like this, the more I feel like they should just be referred to as art pieces.
I guess that's where the world collectibles come in to play, but I mean…wow. The newest release from Kidrobot is this beautifully sculpted piece coming in at a reasonable $500.00. Now, I can't really talk because I've purchased expensive toys/collectibles/art pieces that are pricey, but let's be honest, you're keeping that baby on a shelf. Cuddle up with your Yummy World stuffed animals if you want, but not with your J*RYU sculpture.
I remember when I first discovered Kidrobot, and fell into the world of blind boxes. I had a bunch of them all over my room. You could afford to have unique little art pieces designed by different artists, and had the thirst to collect them all. Also, if my cat came and knocked one over I didn't have a heart attack because they only cost me $8 a pop. There's a big difference between $8 and $500. It's fascinating to see the world of collectible toys become an outlet for so many wonderfully talented artists. It makes you wonder where the art world will be expressing itself fifty years from now. I'm open minded to the different media used in art, and overall I think this is a great way to do it. However, I have to wonder how far thing will develop price wise, and if that will trickle down to their more affordable stuff.
They're only making less than 200 of the white pearlescent design, so if you've got $500.00 laying around in your collectibles fund, grab one here.
