Death Stranding Will Include "Elements of Social Media" and Re-Establishing Physical Contact

Hideo Kojima hasn't shared many details on his upcoming game Death Stranding — which is probably a good thing, since most of us are still trying get our heads around the concept. However, Norman Reedus has given us a few more tidbits about the themes and topics touched on in the game's story.

As spotted by GamesRadar, Reedus was asked about Death Stranding during an interview on the B&H Photogpraphy Podcast, and many of those questions touched on the thematic points of Kojima's new game. He explained:

"The concept is so mind blowing, because it's not like 'Kill everybody and win the game!' It's a connecting thing. It's like the opposite. It's so ahead of its time, and there're elements of social media in it, and the idea is that… So many games and so many parts of millennial culture are being alone in a room, and you lose contact, physical contact, with people. This is after that and the re-establishing of that physical contact. It's super, super interesting."

Reedus also shared some details on what it was like to go through the motion capture process, saying:

"When I met [Kojima] I was like, 'Oh, so they'll play me?' And they're like, 'No, they are you!' So as we're doing this motion capture stuff, they want me to be Norman. They're all standing and if I scratch my head a certain way, they go, 'Oh, do that!' And we'll capture it. By the end of the day you're kind of not moving, because if I keep moving we're going to keep filming! And it's all great but we could go on forever."

That said, we still don't quite know what the game is actually about, and the latest trailer doesn't help much. Knowing Kojima games, though, we probably won't figure out what Death Stranding means until about a decade after release.
