Delta Airlines Argues that Gaming is More Important Than Unions

Delta Airlines, like many major corporations, isn't exactly a fan of unions. The airliner put out several posters for it's anti-union website that feature video games, baseball, and football all as reasons to avoid paying union dues. Because a game console, sports tickets, and a few rounds of beer are cheaper than union dues.

And that's obviously the main reason people join unions. Sure, Delta's math is indeed correct, a game console is cheaper than dues for a union. But one of those gives you protection from abuse by your employer while the other is an entertainment luxury item.

The posters were initially picked up by Variety who report:

Delta Air Lines tried to convince employees their money is better spent on a new gaming console than union dues in a poster for its anti-union site that has been shared frequently via Twitter in the past few days but seemingly was first spotted and shared by Common Dreams' Eoin Higgins.

"Union dues cost around $700 a year," bold text on the poster proclaims. "A new video game system with the latest hits sounds like fun. Put your money towards that instead of paying dues to the union."

Other posters encouraging Delta employees to spend their money on baseball game tickets and a "few rounds" while watching football have also surfaced, with all of the posters advertising the Delta anti-union website, called DontRiskItDontSignIt.com.

Delta's anit-union efforts are tone-deaf at best and insulting to Delta's own employees at worst. Especially at a time when so many people in various industries are considering unionizing efforts. The gaming industry included, and in fact, there are already several gaming unions world-wide.
