Electronic Arts Cancels Their Open-World Star Wars Game
Word has come down this evening that Electronic Arts has officially canned an open-world Star Wars game that was in development. The news, broken by Kotaku, was being developed at the EA Vancouver office who took over the game in 2017 after they shut down Visceral Games. Not a lot was known about the project, as updates have come in that it was still in the early stages of being created under the code name Orca, and that you would be playing a bounty hunter exploring the Star Wars universe in search of jobs, items, and other fun things to do with the galaxy being your oyster.
It's not that surprising to us that the game has been canceled, as EA seemed to have nothing but headaches after Star Wars: Battlefront II was released and quickly ran into backlash from the community over a number of issues including the microtransaction system and the game's primary story. According to the news, it appears they still want to work on a Star Wars title, but they want something smaller that can be produced faster than it would have taken Orca to get published.
