Hiroaki Kato and Takashi Tatano Show Off Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age At PAX East
During a panel at PAX East this weekend, Hiroaki Kato walked fans through the various improvements made to Final Fantasy XII in the upcoming remastered version of the game being released as Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age while game director Takashi Katano controlled the action.
The improvements made to the game are far from just cosmetic, although the updated graphics are definitely a treat. I'd always found FFXII to be a largely forgettable entry in the massive Final Fantasy franchise, but I'm starting to think I've seriously overlooked it.
I still find the fast-foreward mode of this game to be a bit wonky. That said, the turn-based action has started to grow on me the more I play this game. The maps are just so damn big you need to watch the game at x2 speed, or you're just watching a bunch of bizarrely dressed characters with crazy anime hair run around tunnels and cities for hours. And that can get a bit boring.
During the panel we also got videos introducing the Gambit system and Trial mode. The Trial mode lets you fight through a series of successive stages with bonus characters appearing as support. There's a nice video breakdown of that whole system over on Dualshockers if you'd like a more in-depth look at the updated version of FFXII: The Zodiac Age. If you don't want to watch four separate videos, there's a still of the breakdown below taken from the panel's Livestream.
The following video comes to us courtesy of Dualshockers. And it's definitely worth the watch if you missed the Twitch stream. This particular video goes through the improved graphics, the iconic Gambit system, and the game's Job system.
Also at PAX, Square detailed the Collector's and Standard edition details for FFXII: The Zodiac Age which is slated to release on July 11th for PS4.
