Ever thought there might be a PlayStation 10 one day? Sony Interactive Entertainment is making sure the company is covered in case there is.

The company has filed several PlayStation trademarks in Japan for "PS6," PS7," "PS8," "PS9," and "PS10." While this isn't a move that's out of the ordinary for Sony, it's odd to see them thinking so far ahead. It's probably more of a "just in case" move, since the numbering structure likely won't be changing.

In fact, we've only ever had numbered entries since the first PlayStation debuted, all the way up to the PlayStation 5, which is set to come out in 2020. So before you assume there's a reason to start celebrating Sony having confirmed there are five additional systems on their way out eventually, just think logically. Remember that these are pretty common occurrences. To be fair though, it does seem strange to see all of those fictional systems laid out like that. It's like a forum fight between fanboys proclaiming PlayStation will go on forever. Except sometimes, it really feels like that for all the systems we currently enjoy.

Just a few years ago, it also seemed weird that we'd ever see a PlayStation 5 on the horizon, but look at the industry now. We're careening toward a new PlayStation and a new Xbox in the same year, and things are cooler than ever. It's truly a great time to be a gamer. Who knows? Maybe all of these systems will actually be made one day. It's never too late to start getting ready for an awesome future like that, after all.

What do you think? Is a PlayStation 10 possible one day? Suppose we'll just have to wait and see. The future isn't that far off, after all. It's closer than you might think, you know.
