A Special Version of Nintendo's Famicom Classic Edition Sells 111K Units in Japan
We've said this before about Nintendo: all they need to do is create is mini versions of their old consoles and they have a license to print money.
You may remember back when Nintendo introduced the Famicom Shonen Jump Gold Classic Edition a couple months ago that basically had games on it that were all related to manga strips shown in Jump magazine. Well, that version of the classic console basically became a best seller in a matter of 72 hours. Between July 6th-8th, the company reportedly sold 111k units, making it one of Nintendo's fastest-selling products in their home country.
Hopefully, Nintendo will learn very quickly this time to prepare more units for sale. With the last few Classic Edition units both at home and abroad, they have failed to have what we would call an adequate number of units available for purchase. Nintendo has slightly righted that wrong by releasing new versions of the NES Classic and Super NES Classic after they both completely sold out, and we can only imagine this version of the Famicom is going to be joining them very quickly. We'll know more about sales figures in the days to come to determine how well the console actually did in Japan and how many of those sales were from out of the country.
