Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Will Not Feature Nathan Drake
Because Uncharted 4: A Theif's End is supposed to be the final chapter in the story of Nathan Drake, he will not appear at all in the upcoming DLC The Lost Legacy, which will instead focus on two supporting characters in the Uncharted series.
Granted, calling The Lost Legacy a DLC is a bit of a misnomer. The expansion is so massive it is launching as it's own game this summer, but will also be featured as part of the Uncharted 4 Digital Deluxe Edition. Lost Legacy will follow Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross as they search for the Tusk of Ganesh about six months to a year after the events of Uncharted 4.
"We're not going to touch on Nathan Drake in this, at all," Game Director Kurt Margenau told the PlayStation Blog.
Margenau followed up on statements from writer Josh Scherr, who said the team "entertained a few possible ideas around including Nate as a secondary character … but everything we did felt superfluous because we tied it all up with Uncharted 4."
The Lost Legacy team has been hinting at Drake's absence for a while now, but they did note that the DLC will have to acknowledge his existence as Chloe and Nadine both have complicated histories with Drake.
Personally, I think it's the best move Naughty Dog could make. Bringing Drake back would just confuse the game's narrative, downplay the importance of Uncharted 4, and give us far too much hope for a sequel.
As Drake's story arc is done, it's best to leave him behind. At least until someone decides we need a reboot.
