Japan's Prime Minister Appeared As Mario During Rio Olympic's Closing Ceremony

It's customary for a country's leader or a national figure of the next Olympic games to make an appearance at the preceding closing ceremony. It's a passing of the literal and figurative torch.

Japan, who are set to host the 2020 Olympics, did it in style last night too, with the country having a segment dedicated to Super Mario. The best bit? Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe appeared out of a green pipe with a Mario like hat on his head.

This was a fun tribute, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics should be fascinating, especially if we see more tributes like this (remember that time the Japan World Cup team were whisked around in a Pokemon covered plane?) It's really cool to see the country embrace it's history in the medium in such a prideful way. More, I say!
