2 New Images for Dumbo and Colin Farrell Talks About Being "Giddy" on Set
Disney surprised a lot of people by dropping a teaser and a poster for their upcoming live-action remake of Dumbo. Now Entertainment Weekly has rolled out two new images, including one that gives us a great look at Dumbo himself, and talked to star Colin Ferrall about what it was like to be on set and working with director Tim Burton.
"Honestly, I was like a child in a sweet shop, I really was, I was so giddy," Farrell said. "I had this sustained excitement during the whole thing because the sets we were working on were extraordinary, the story was so sweet, Tim was such a dream, the cast was so lovely. … It's also nice to do something that my children can see."
Farrell got the chance to talk about his character, Holy Farrier, who is a veteran returning from World War I. He's lost his wife, his arm, he has his two children, and the circus that he used to perform at as a horse showman is on the verge of collapse.
"What once was my home and a place where I was incredibly comfortable, is now a place that I feel very estranged from," Farrell said.
Farrell talked about the themes of the movie that include "inclusion, acceptance, kindness, and support" according to Farrell. When we first see Dumbo his large ears are pinned back but then they break free showing the baby elephant for who he really is.
"It's kind of a very aggressive moment, pure social bullying if you will," Farrell said.
It's about being true to yourself and it'll be interesting to see how this movie walks the line between being a faithful adaption and doing something completely different.
Summary: Circus owner Max Medici enlists former star Holt Farrier and his children Milly and Joe to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere, who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant, until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.
Dumbo, directed by Tim Burton, stars Colin Farrell, Nico Parker, Finley Hobbins, Muchael Keaton, Danny DeVito and Eva Green. It will be released on March 29th, 2019.
