The First Omen has a new poster and trailer that debuted this morning. Starring Nell Tiger Free ("Servant"), Tawfeek Barhom ("Mary Magdalene"), Sonia Braga ("Kiss of the Spider Woman"), Ralph Ineson ("The Northman"), and Bill Nighy ("Living"), it is directed by Arkasha Stevenson. This is a prequel to the original Omen film, a classic that one may argue never needed any sequels or prequels. That ship sailed long ago, though, so on April 5th, we will see this film hit theaters from 20th Century Studios. You can see the brand-new trailer and poster down below.

The First Omen In Name Only

When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate. Here is a bunch of new images from The First Omen as well.

As stated above, I am not sure that this is a film that needs to exist. The trailer is pretty good, though, and there are certainly winks and nods to fans of the iconic original. And with this talented cast, it has a leg up on the other sequels to The Omen that we have gotten in the past. But what is the point of this, much like The Exorcist: Believer last year? The original is such a classic and respected film; this feels like an attempt to cash in on a name people recognize. Maybe I will be wrong, but I doubt it. I have felt this way since the first still was released.

The First Omen will be in theaters on April 5th.
